SUNSHINE2

I’ve been asked a lot lately why I’m so passionate about blogging about Made in USA. – I live and breathe “Made in the USA” every day. I’m not jumping on the bandwagon. I’ve been driving the wagon for years. I design, make, and sell products every single day, – that’s how I make my living. It’s my life. It’s the life of a lot of my friends.

Every day when I wake up, I check my email to see if there are orders from customers who put their trust in me, and my designs. I’m so incredibly thankful to them. It’s because of them I can pay the bills. I often get bogged down in the grunt work of running a business, I need to stop and focus on the good. That’s why I take the whole American Made Movement very personal.

Companies walk a fine line between telling *just enough* of their personal story to customers (or the press) to find them intriguing and inspiring, but not *too much* so anyone can see them for real. Worried that “real life” isn’t going to sell, we hide behind the illusion. Don’t expose the man behind the curtain.

What’s behind my curtain? –   I drive a German car. I’ve had my run with importing. I don’t wear only American made clothes. I’m not political. I admire the past, but I don’t live in it. I’m not a cute blogger that wears thick framed glasses (OK maybe I do that – but only at night when I take my contacts out). I don’t live a glamorous life. I’m not what you expect for being the voice of Made in America Movement. That’s why I HAD to be the one to tell the stories of others like me.

I’ll admit I started Modestics very grudgingly. It was my brother-in-law that suggested I started blogging. He knew the struggles that I face every day with my own business, and all the road blocks along the way. He suggested I be the promoter of American Made – the way I think it should be told. Highlight the small business owners who like myself, might be overlooked because someone else is already standing in the spotlight. In every industry there are the ones who get the recognition, and then there are the heavy lifters. It’s time the recognition goes to the heavy lifters taking “Made in the USA” to new heights.

Every company we feature, I can relate to. I understand the constant pressure of keeping up with demand and expectations. - I also take great joy in hearing their successes.

I look forward to discovering more heavy lifters. I wish I had time to put every single one of them up on a pedestal, but I’m unable to write about them all on my own. (I still have to keep my own business going) I’m happy that others feel as passionate about the movement as I do and want to help me build Modestics. Negar brings you fashion. Elissa brings you handmade. Max puts it all together and makes it graphically pleasing. - I want to invite you and other modern enthusiasts to share your stories. Is there someone, something or an event that you would like to promote? Or do you just want to vent and get something off your chest? There are others out there that are just like you; weighted down with the day-to-day grind. Personally, I find the real life struggles to be what’s inspiring.

I know it’s not always Sunshine and Lollipops.
